Should you be able to buy your marijuana from the same place you get your alcohol?
That’s what Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger is proclaiming.
If the federal government legalizes pot, he says that Manitoba Liquor Mart locations are the best place to sell the stuff, as the staff are already well-trained on the risks of alcohol, and could easily provide the same services with regards to weed.
The employees are also well versed with the array of alcohol sold, and can recommend flavours and bottles to customers. The same approach could be applied to marijuana.
Selinger points out, however, that there would be no requirement for workers to consumer pot (though it wouldn’t hurt to familiarize yourself with the product!).
Do this just make complete sense? Or would this approach only help the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union, who represents the liquor store workers?
Should the LCBO adopt that policy here if pot is legalized?
