Canada’s threat level is to remain unchanged despite the terror attacks which rocked Paris last Friday.
Speaking at a press conference in Ottawa, accompanied by the heads of the RCMP, CSIS, and the Canada Border Services Agency, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said “there is no rationale for changing Canada’s threat level.”
The minister said authorities are being extra vigilant and everything possible is being done to keep Canadians safe, and while he urged people to be alert, he maintained that the country is basically safe and peaceful.
He added however that the threat level is ”constantly reassessed” and ”we make sure that all the relevant factors and monitored and taken into account on a real time basis.”
The level has been ad medium since October of last year.
Goodale also took time to condemn recent attacks on the Muslim community in Canada, saying now is not the time for what he called ”vigilante retaliation” saying ”we need to demonstrate to each other and to the world our values of diversity and inclusion.”
