Bad news for resident who live near the construction sites of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.
The $5.3 billion project is now scheduled to open a year later than promised.
The 19-km LRT was supposed to begin running late in 2020 but is now expected to open in Sept. 2021.
No specific reasons for the delay were given but Metrolinx CEO Bruce McCuaig say in talking to the bidders about the construction and the community needs during the build, the date was changed to 2021.
The announcement was made as tunnel boring machines were began digging toward Yonge Street 15 metres below Eglinton.
Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca was on hand for the press conference and stressed it was important that the government take the time to make sure the project and the contract were delivered properly.
