The possibility of a fare hike will be on the agenda at a TTC budget committee meeting this afternoon.
The current cash fare of $3.00 has been in place for 5 year years with the committee set to look at eight different fare scenarios, a $0.25 hike on cash fares among them.
The news comes on the back of a 10 cent hike earlier this year, implemented to balance its 2015 budget, however the transit company is now looking at a budget shortfall in the region of 95 million dollars for next year.
No definite decision on a 2016 fare hike will be made at the meeting.
Meanwhile,a transit advocacy group known as the TTC riders are calling for governmental funding for the TTC, saying Torontonians ”are sick of paying even more for sardine-level overcrowding”.
