A Peel Regional police officer has been sentenced to 5 years in prison, and the Chief of police is pushing for his dismissal.
Following a lengthy criminal trial, Constable Carlton Watson was convicted on 42 fraud, obstruct justice and breach of trust charges.
His sentence was delivered Monday morning.
The officer has been suspended without pay.
Chief Jennifer Evans issued a statement after the sentence was handed down. “I want to assure the community that I take allegations of misconduct very seriously and hold officers accountable for their actions. As a result of this conviction and custodial sentence, I will be seeking his dismissal from this police service.”
