Ontario’s Liberal government has launched a television ad blitz to promote the newly updated sex-education curriculum.
The ads were launched on the Ontario Government’s youtube page on Sunday and is set to coincide with the start of the school year and the roll out of the new lessons.
The ad is meant to be educational and promote the new curriculum as they say the old curriculum was dangerously out of date.
The 30 second ad depicts teenagers in situations where they feel uncomfortable or confused.
Some of the images include a young child looking at a wedding cake with 2 grooms, a boy being bullied online and a girl taking a najed “selfie”.
Some of the highlight of the new curriculum includes Grade 1 students learning the proper names for body parts, Grade 2 students learning about bullying and Grade 4 students learning about “sexting.”
The new curriculum has been criticized by religious groups and protesters have gathered on the lawn of Queen’s Park, with some parents even pulling their children from the classroom.
