The TDBS is looking to implement a policy whereby parents could run extracurricular activities if they have expertise in the area – or until teachers’ work to rule is over – preventing them from running after school activities. Given that some teacher groups had threatened to pull extracurricular if they didn’t have a collective agreement in place, this allows the students to continue their after school activities uninterrupted – and other regions – including Peel, Ottawa & Halton already have rules in place to allow for parent participation. Should the teachers be shouldered extracurricular? Or should it be up to the parents to take on this responsibility as well? Would you feel comfortable with parents running extra-curricular?
