Tech firms in China have been hiring female ‘cheerleaders’ to boost production. Their job includes playing ping-pong, getting food and in general making the workplace a more ‘fun’ place to be. One HR rep said a lot of the young male programmers are ‘terrible at socialization’, so the ‘cheerleaders’ are there improve job efficiency and motivation. Given that many tech firms across the world offer their employees perks (ie. Google offers dry cleaning, nap pods & gourmet food), are workplace cheerleaders really that unnecessary?
