Some are requesting the CNE reconsiders having their annual airshow, after two airshow tragedies in Europe over the weekend: one in the UK where a jet slammed into a roadway killing at least eleven and an in flight collision in Switzerland that killed one. According to Colin Stevenson, executive director of Air Show Atlantic, Canadian airshows have had an outstanding safety record for decades. Between the Royal Canadian Air Force and Transport Canada the rules for live airshows are extremely rigid. One of these rules, keeps pilots from performing aerobatic stunts above crowds. There is also consideration for the flight path an aircraft would be taking if it went out of control during a trick.
Even with these safety measures should the Exhibition consider cancelling this year’s airshow?
