City of Toronto Municipal Licensing and Standards representatives say that Taxi Cab drivers have to accept a fare regardless of the amount.
A friend of Ariela Navarro, one of the two people killed at the Muzik nightclub shooting says she and Ariela had asked several cab drivers to take them home during the shooting but drivers refused because the fare was too small.
Councillor Jim Karygiannis, who is a huge proponent of the taxi cab industry had this to say about the shooting:
“I am deeply concerned about a published report that one of the shooting victims, Arelia Navarro-Fenoy and her friends, who were trying to get home as gunfire broke out, were refused a taxi ride by taxi drivers, because the trip would be an $8 fare. In my view, taxi drivers have a responsibility to pick up customers and take them to their destinations, regardless of the cost the taxi fare.”
Toronto Police are still looking for two suspects in relation to the deadly shooting this week at Muzik nightclub.
