The story was 19 year old sensation Kia Nurse. She’s only been with the Canadian women’s national basketball team for three years, but her dominant performance against the favoured U.S. led Canada to their first ever Pan Am gold medal in Women’s basketball.
The Hamilton product scored 33 with five rebounds while the Canadian defense forced 18 turnovers to combine for the 81 -73 win.
The gold medal kept a streak of at least one gold for Canada every day of the games, so far.
Six more medals on Monday gives Canada 55 gold for a total of 148. The U.S. still leads overall with 169 medals, including 65 gold.
