B.C. conservation officer Bryce Casavant has been suspended without pay for refusing to kill two black bear cubs after their mother was killed for raiding a freezer full of meat and salmon. Despite being ordered to kill the cubs, he took them to a veterinary hospital and they were sent to a recovery centre run by the North Island Wildlife Recovery Association. An online petition to reinstate Casavant’s job was launched and is only four thousand signatures away from thirty five thousand.
Was the suspension warranted as he defied orders? Do you applaud his decision as one of compassion?
