Is the cottage lifestyle still a desired one for most Ontarians?
Many cottage country resorts are facing financial hardship due to a lack of interest from vacationers.
It’s also thought that higher housing prices in Toronto and the GTA over the last few years means less money available for a second property. Higher taxes and hydro costs have also made cottage ownership less desirable. And if you want a cottage on the lake, the purchase price is NOT CHEAP!
And for many, that dream of owning waterfront property has been forever quashed by the reality that one has to battle five hours of bumper-to-bumper traffic on a major highway in order to reach a quiet and tranquil getaway North of Toronto!
Is a cottage a bad decision in this day and age?
Why own one if you’re only getting up there a maximum of a few dozen weekends a year? If you go up for the weekend, you’re only really up there for a full Saturday and a portion of Sunday, with an hours-long commute just to get there and back.
What say you?
