Ford Appeal Verdict to Come Down Friday Morning
Toronto//AM640 News

1/23/2013

Mayor Rob Ford's conflict of interest appeal will be decided upon and released Friday morning at 10:30.

Ford, who was found guilty in November, appealed to the Ontario Divisional Court earlier this month.

It was originally deemed that Ford had violated a conflict of interest act when he solicited donations for his football team on his office letterhead, however when the Integrity Commissioner ordered Ford multiple times to pay those donations back, Ford refused, voting to absolve himself of the responsibility.

The Conflict of Interest Act prohibits elected officials from voting on an issue where they could have a personal stake in the outcome.

If Ford's verdict is upheld by the appeals court, he is to vacate his office within 48 hours; council will then declare his seat vacant and decide whether or not to appoint a mayor, or call a by-election.
