The province's police watchdog has cleared a York Regional Police officer, following a bizarre hit and run.

Earlier this month, a man in his 30's died after being struck by three cars on Yonge Street, south of King Road.

The victim was initially struck by a Mercedes SUV, and then by two other cars, including the cruiser.

The Special Investigations Unit says the officer was responding to the call when he struck the body, and was not driving in a dangerous manner.

The driver of the Mercedes is now facing numerous charges in the incident.
