Environment Canada has now issued a severe rainfall warning for the City of Calgary and surrounding communities.

All eyes on river levels again

The Calgary Fire Department is reminding people to stay away from the rivers in light of all the recent moisture.
A rainfall warning remains in place for the city with the forecast calling for about 65mm of rain by Thursday night.
Areas west of Calgary could get much more.
The fire department says river conditions are very dangerous with a lot of debris in the water right now. They also say river banks could be very unstable.
Meantime, the town of High River is watching the Highwood River, as Alberta Environment has issued a high streamflow advisory.

Fatal crash near Cochrane

One person has died in a collision involving a car and a school bus on Highway 22, south of Cochrane, Wednesday afternoon.
The crash caused the partial closure of the highway and impacted traffic flow.
RCMP say no children were on the school bus.

Redford in U-S again to sell Alberta oil

Premier Alison Redford was in the U-S again talking about the benefits of Alberta Oil.
This time she was in New York, where she gave a speech at the Foreign Policy Association's North American Energy Conference.
Redford says she knows she has been taking a lot of trips south lately, but she says someone has to relay the right message when it comes to Alberta's environmental record.
Redford says people have to realize that Alberta is a leader when it comes to environmental stewardship, but the same can't be said for other countries that also export oil.

Council to make decision Monday on what to do with Eamons building

City council members seem split on what exactly should be done with what many consider to be a historic landmark in the northwest.
Alderman Shane Keating says he doesn't want to be the guy voting to scrap the old Eamon's building.
But he also doesn't want to keep pouring money into something that no one's interested in reviving.
And the longer the building stays in storage, the less likely it will end up back on its old site, which is where the Tuscany LRT park-and-ride is going.
Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart has heard the city is in "very preliminary" talks with a potential tenant.
The question becomes: how much is too much to save the Eamon's building?
Essentially, it will cost up to $410,000 for moving, storage, design and servicing, all with the hope that someone, someday, will want to set up a coffee shop or diner inside.

City committee says "yes" to taxi cameras

A city hall committee is pushing forward with mandating surveillance cameras in all taxis. If council approves, they would have to be in place by July 1st.
More than 95% of cabs already have the security cameras in place.
The hope is the technology will give drivers a better sense of security, leading them to drive at night more often and putting more drivers on the road during the busy night-time crunch.
The jury's still out on safety shields though.
Mario Henriques is with the city's Livery and Transport Services and says it was easier to do it when taxis were larger.
Henriques adds drivers are also a little concerned that the shields would limit how many people could get into a cab, restricting their profits.

More C-Train platforms being retrofitted for 4 car C-Trains

Two more C-Train stations are being upgraded for 4 train cars in the next week.
Work will begin on the Lion's Park station on Thursday and will last for about 6 months.
Then on Monday, construction will begin at Anderson Station, with that work expected to last 5 months.
Many C-Train stations have already been renovated to allow for the longer C-Trains, which should start rolling by 2015.

Calgary doctor suspended

A Calgary doctor has been suspended by the College of Physicians and Surgeons for having an inappropriate relationship with a patient.

Calgary family physician Dr. Ronald Tsujikawa was found guilty of unprofessional conduct. He has been suspended, and has been ordered to undergo further assessments, as well as paying the costs of the College's investigation and Hearing.The college says after investigating, Dr. Tsujikawa admitted to living with the patient and prescribing her narcotics while he was still acting as her physician.

Rash of thefts targeted at airport

Several youths are facing charges after vehicles parked in long-term lots at the Calgary International Airport were vandalized, or in some cases, stolen. City police say a number of vehicles have been targeted since October, with the majority left unlocked, even with keys left inside. Security officials were able to help identify some of the suspects, leading to six arrests.The Airport Authority has made a few changes to help with security at YYC parkades, but travellers are being reminded to do whatever they can to help avoid being a victim.
