Kiss Me, Kate!

Uproar in France this morning as topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge have been published.

As technology gets better at what seems to be an incredible rate, it is more likely in the future that these opportunities exist for paparazzo to exploit. That’s their job, as disagreeable as it may be.

The Royal Family is up in arms over the situation of course. In this day and age, you’d almost expect the House of Windsor would issue a simple yet effective edict. All it takes is to instruct the members of the family to keep their clothes on when in public.

No topless sunbathing. Ever.

Also, maybe issue a ‘no strip-billiards’ edict as well.

Harsh maybe, but it would be effective.

Oh let her titillate Britain's enemies abroad!!

I think the Royals want to modernize the world view of their hip family especially for young people. Kate covers up enough when in public to placate the religious and political views of Britain's opponents. If she can covertly influence attitudes of today's youth by exposing herself when she knows -- let's not be naive enough to think she doesn't know she's being filmed -- she is watched, then bravo! Harry can do it, Kate can do it, but will we see William violate a taboo? Keep your eyes glued to the Royals, pump their popularity!! Doesn't hurt their image and in fact, I suspect it is all choreographed by the Royals to boost popularity and protect their status.

@JoanA_0122 Poor William and his bad posture. He'll probably be caught fondling a horse at Windsor Castle.

PS, everybody realizes Space says she had a lobotomy to make her malleable to Royal will? The analyses Space makes are sometimes pretty suspect but his facts are uncannily accurate, so that scar on her forehead no one could explain -- is it an old lobotomy scar???? And if so, who programmed her to bare her breasts (and other parts yet to be exposed)?

@JoanA_0122 Don’t knock all of the Royal Family. At least Edward studied theatre and dance after technically resigning from the Royal Marines. At the time it was said that young Edward was taking a temporary leave from the forces. “The News of the World”, however, stated that he experienced heart arrhythmias when showering with the other marine candidates. Some of the “rough” Glaswegian men apparently drove him to a point of near madness, like his ancestor George 1.

Then, he found a beard in the personage of Sophie Rhys-Jones which allowed him to follow any rainbow that he wished to pursue.

In fact, he became the Queen Mother’s favourite and often joked with her and her male staff. He fondly remembers her reciting her story about her thirst for another gin and tonic. As she stood at the top of the stairs watching male servants arguing, she raised her voice: “When you queens are finished arguing, there is a real Queen up here who wants another gin and tonic.”

The aforementioned story is included in Edward’s unauthorised biography,
      " My Life with Queens".

Today, William and Kate are visiting Tavanipupu Island where they were received by a group of topless dancers. Don't you think any of this was scripted?

@JoanA_0122 Naw. If the dancers on Tavanipupu Island had worn tops, they couldn't be classified as "topless dancers".

It's just cultural. Breasts aren't sexualized in many countries.

I agree with John. If you want to be a Royal: no nude sunbathing and no strip pool.
The Royal Family’s duty is to set an example for its subjects.

I’m not interested in seeing photos of Prince Harry “giving it to a girl doggy style” in a Vegas hotel.

Likewise, even though Kate Middleton is no beauty, her breasts are of no interest to me.

At least Prince Edward, who has shared interests with John Travolta and Tom Cruise, had the sense to acquire a “beard” in the form of Sophie Rhys-Jones.

@Douglas Ford [deleted] Doug, Don't you think that Harry photo was staged? Intended to provoke, to make Harry appear a rascal? What I noticed about those photos was how well they protected the identity of the women Harry was with. I felt that required at least some careful editing if not outright scripting, maybe with the girls being paid actresses. Well, maybe they weren't actresses but you know what I mean. I think John is right that Royals must expect to be photographed even when on holiday on the other side of France on your own private balcony .. and I think both William and Kate DID expect to be photographed and videotaped. I think they staged the exposure. You must admit it is a covert way of thumbing their noses at all the demands Kate wear the hijab. Totally within her legal rights to sunbathe nude on her own private balcony in a country where women do that all the time, then the next day, Kate was videotaped wearing hijab, then a few days later, being received by a group of topless dancers. We don't really want the Royals to support that ideology that demands women show no more than a finger, do we? Don't we want them to support freedom, regardless of whether it offends?

@Douglas Ford [deleted] Doug says Kate is "no beauty" ... given taste is individual and subjective, are you kidding? She is a gorgeous woman. Compliant, submissive, maybe not everyone's "type", but objectively, she is a real classic beauty.

I like her even though, personally, I wouldn't want my privacy breached on the front pages like hers was. But Royals are different. Protected more than the rest of us. They have the back-up of all the world's Royals not just the British public and their associates in all the world's governments. They observe rules of diplomacy, such as wearing hijab and accepting what many consider insults including not shaking hands with Kate because she is considered, under Islam, to be unclean. Royals know they can't influence opinion about women's rights in direct debate with other cultural leaders but they know they can influence the public all over the world with photos that show Kate in a free and equal role with her husband, naked and rubbing his back out in the sunshine on her balcony where she knows she is being videotaped, or at least that she likely is. She knows that, unlike the common person, she can bathe nude, have it widely publicized that she supports such behaviour choices, and never suffer any negative consequence and that in fact, she can go to court almost the next day, like it was planned that way, and receive compensation from the photographer, like the business deal it was for the cost of doing business. No criminal charges because it wasn't a crime but a marketing and propaganda ruse.

I really don't care what the British royal family does, but the one I like the most was Diana. She seemed totally different than the "normal" bunch of royals. Anyways, out of curiosity, I saw a few of the topless photos and she sure didn't turn me on whatsoever. I've seen video of the Queen visiting Canada and the politicians are totally fawning over her and boot licking. It's really pathetic.

Some of the problem comes from many people expecting the "royals" to be people who have nothing in common with the "regular" person. Professional photographers invade their privacy and take pictures of the royals in compromising positions. Unfortunately, some people treat these royals (and celebrities) like they are someone special, and want to know every little thing they do. I have a life and don't really care if Kate is sunbathing topless in the privacy of her own home.
