Back To School!
Posted 8/27/2012 8:09:00 AM

Well not until next week for the kiddies, but the adults are back is session at Queen’s Park to discuss the upcoming school year.

The Liberal bill is expected to pass, implementing a wage freeze as well as banning the ability to strike.

Hudak and the Provincial PC Party have agreed to back the bill while at the same time criticizing this Liberal about face; Premier McGuinty has carved out his career as an ‘education Premier’.

Under the surface, the education issue has now become a non-issue in the two upcoming by-elections, which may end up focusing on ORNGE, eHealth and that cancelled power plant in Etobicoke.

So the bill should pass and the school year should start as scheduled; only time will tell if the whole thing ends becoming a bit of misdirection leading in to the fall.

    The real issue is not just passing the no strike and and 2 years wage freeze, we as parents we do not know who is running the education system anymore is it the government represented in ministry of education or the teachers and their unions ?
    The education system has been corrupted with politics for so many years and teachers union is getting more power than it should be . maybe there will be no strike But there will be work to rule plus more withdrawal services , in these economical conditions tell me how many workers will have a job will give 20 sick days plus 10 emergency days , great benefit , part time work ( 180 working days a year) and absolutely no accountability , when kids watching their teachers and their unions act in this ill manner what massage they are getting , never mind about destroying what is left from once called social justice in our country .the power relationship between government and union must be redirected ,teachers and their union have to understand it is PUBLIC money they are abusing , it is our kids they are missing with and it is our country they polluted .

      @MattW_6568 I couldn't agree more! It seems education has become less about the students and more about the teachers.

      @MattW_6568 Those benifits sound wonderful.

      Isn't the real story about how the poor politicians have to come off of their summer vacation early to vote for this?

      and absolutely no accountability? That just lost you all credibility.

      The government are the real crooks, they all got jobs and pensions for life. If the governement believes salary caps are the only way to save our economy - fine.

      They can with their own paycheques first.

    Jesus H Oakley.

    Why preach about the dangers of misdirection when all you do is muddy the waters with political bias?

    Hows the liberal conspiricy theory doing? Cause from where I'm standing it looks like you're scrambling to put the pieces together.

      @DrakeS Drake is so vicious.

      One person who reads this site told me that Drake is a "screaming queen".

      The comment went over my head. I'm not really sure what the person meant.

      Can anyone define "screaming queen" for me?

      I can't find it in the Oxford.

    Drake responds to another blog, that the liberal politicians have to come off their summer vacation to vote, with no accountability....Wrong Drake, politicians are accountable to the tax payers and you have the availability to vote them out...The teachers are there for life and you have no say as to who teaches your children nor the ability to vote them out. Seems your argument should be with the teachers and their liberal backing union and not politics

    It's not just about whether a teacher's right to Strike should be taken away.It's the non stop Bullying way the Government has handled everything from the Postal Workers,to Air Canada Workers to Railway Workers and now to Teachers.These are all BIG UNIONS and it is pretty obvious that if one looks at the entire picture here,it's a Government Attack on Workers that are Unionized.It's an Attack on UNIONS-Period.
    I believe that it all goes back to the Brian Mulroney "DAZE" when he said after getting into power the first time,"Wed are going to break the big unions in this country and we are going to start with Canada Post"...and that's because CUPW was up to bat next.Same thing has occurred again,last Summer when the rotating strikes were being used as a show of Union Solidarity about their negotiation demands,Canada Post and the Gov't. got together,Locked Out the workers as they were showing up for work on Midnights.After a couple of weeks,they ordered people back to work who were willing to work to begin with.Rotating strikes do not stop work,they slow it down.
    Besides,now that the liberals have pretty well burned out there man,Dalton...they have to do something to draw fire from Orng and the other Liberal Screw-Ups that Premier "Dull-ton" McGuinty and his playmates have done to piss us off.He's finished as Premiere...because he has done nothing but be the School Bully from Gay Alliance Clubs forced down our throats in the school systems (When did kids get to tell adults what to do?-Tail is now wagging the dog!) to the other for our own good lies he has told us over his "reign" of Power.
    An attack on Unions will hurt ALL WORKERS.Unions are the ones that set the working standard for ALL WORKERS in the country.That includes the non-Union workers....If you doubt it-be thankful for your Maternity Leave you now enjoy new parents...it was CUPW Union Workers that got that in their contract,then set the wheels in motion for ALL WORKERS to have it.That's just ONE Instance.Minimum wages are set to a higher standard because of the watchful eye's of Unions in this country as well.If the teachers and rail Workers and Air Canada People and all large Unions get toppled,hold on my non union friend's...you too will have a New Low to live by.Then will you be happier?..You may just lose that Maternity leave too! To date...there is still no Postal Contract.The workers there were given a very small increase of pay...about a 1.5% increase if even that much...and there has been 3 arbitrators assigned,one left suddenly...another appointed one was dismissed by the Gov't. and currently,they are working to get another in place so they can finally get a contract.It will be 2 years come January 312/2013 since the Postal Workers Contract expired... YUP!...the Gov't IS IN CONTROL!-Time to say ENOUGH! and take back what was rightly earned in the collective bargaining processes from past years.If the Unions Fail now-so will every one else,Private or otherwise.

      @Joseph TH What a mumbled war cry this is.

      Who's teaching you Joeseph? You musta home schooled son. 'cause all you done is spew the poorly formed puns given to you by the lame stream media.

      It is very clear no one taught you how to think for yourself.

      @MichaelC_17 Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy wouldn't work, because Drake can't think.

      I would suggest ECT at least twice on a daily basis, in addition to a high dosage of anti-psychotics.

      Should the aforementioned not be effective, the "rubber room" is the only solution.
