He Must Be Photogenic
Posted 8/15/2012 9:35:00 AM

It’s the only plausible excuse. Mayor Ford has been photographed more times than all other Toronto mayors combined. Or so it would seem.

Another photo surfaced on Twitter (of course) of Mayor Ford reading while driving.

While nobody would condone the activity, it does seem that Mayor Ford is so divisive that he inspires the Eastman in all of us. Or if we can’t manage a snapshot, we’re more than willing to run to the press with our individual ‘scoops’.

Running down some of the public’s grievances of the Mayor:

-         Using a cell phone while driving

-         Flipping the bird after being accused of the previous point

-         Exiting a fast food outlet while on a much publicized diet

-         Driving past open streetcar doors

And you get the idea. Odd that not one of these things seems to relate to the job he was elected to do. Shouldn’t the public be more concerned with his in office performance? Yes there are certain sacrifices that come with public office, but that shouldn’t shift the focus away from that office. With Mayor Ford, the focus appears to be on everything but.

As usual the article attacks the message not the deeds. Outside of the KFC incident one is road rage and the other two could have caused an accident. Perhaps some harsh words for the Mayor rather than the media might be in order.

Once again John, you've proven to be one bias SOB. Isn't getting paid by 640 good enough? You had to get a little gravy on the side I guess.

You are right about needing better more mature media coverage. People wouldn't be so divisive if we had better media - who is going to stand up and make that difference John, you?

This fluff piece is a warm fuzzy bias blanket you are throwing over a series of issues then expecting your loyal heard to follow suit and tuck the corners in all nice and cozy.

You are just as guilty for shifting the focus away from the real issues Oakley - but hey, whatever pays the bills...

    Drake:

Let’s not behave like a screaming queen, towards Mr. Oakley.

We understand that it’s difficult, especially after you’ve had your third series of ECT’s within the last two weeks.

You can disagree with John’s viewpoint. However, your ad hominems towards Mr. Oakley and Mayor Ford reflect a mind that is not grounded in logic.

Additionally, your psychological profile indicates that you are intimidated by strong male figures.

You fit perfectly into Uncle Sigmund’s character set-up of an Oedipally-fixated male.

Can you pinpoint the time when you abstractly tried to kill your father and be intimate with your mother?

If so, there is hope for a reversal in your abnormality.

In other words, there is hope for you developing a human sense of reason.

As for Mayor Ford: he is a human, yet he may occasionally make an improper personal judgement.

Intelligent people collectively agree to the previous as reality opposing illusion.

Your rambling reminds me of Jack Kennedy, the son of an Irish-Catholic mobster, who shagged over 1,000 women. However, he suprisingly served as President until his brains were splattered all over Jackie’s designer dress at 12:30 p.m., November 22nd, 1963 in Dallas.

Personal habits aside, Kennedy fell below the level of mediocrity.

In fact, many view him as America’s worst President.

Due to the fact that you have no grasp of history and the present.... Google what I said.

In the same vein, Mayor Ford is Toronto’s ideal mayor He’s trying to correct most of its problems.

Fortunately, he’s neither a crook nor a Kennedy.

In other words, he’s not really focussed on providing people such as you with Social Services. We already know that you sleep on that soiled mattress in Mummy’s basement.

However, do you support all of the “bros” who cap each other in certain parts of Toronto?

    I suspect that you do.

The poor lads can’t overcome their environment, so they kill people on a regular basis.

The previous is indicative of your distorted thinking.

You’re as bad as Pierre Trudeau, who ruined the foundations of Canada.

A Harvard Professor once told me that he knew someone who was intimate in a male manner with Trudeau. It was in the south of Greece. Could that have been someone such as you?

What is “mature media coverage”, Drake? Objective media coverage that is well-written?

I’m not sure what you mean.

    Objectivity is subjectivity.

    What constitutes more mature media?

Would you rather watch Anderson Cooper play ping pong with his garbles, as he broadcasts?

You are speaking in a naively subjective manner, void of substance.

You believe that you can think. However, pure thought lies well beyond you.

You’re imperfect language creates a fissure in reality. You obviously know that language is the basis for reality.

If you cannot master language, then you are void of any perspective of the truth.

Your socialistic double-speak won’t convince anyone online that you have any perspective of the truth.

I have noticed that you constantly criticize Mr. Oakley.

You should ask to be a guest on his show.

    He’s a fair man.

He would let you debate him on his show, as long as you don’t make amorous advances towards him.

If you are agreeable to the aforementioned condition, I’ll phone Mr. Oakley and ask if will debate you on the air.

Someone’s blind mind will get blown away, as his ass explodes in frustration.

    It won’t be Mr. Oakley’s.

There used to me a time when the Newspapers used to report the news not manufacture it. I am starting a new News Service: I report the News about the News Providers. Hence I will start with Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star who has followed and reported every nuance of the Mayors personal life. I would like to know if Daniel Dale is gay?. Seems to me that he reports like he has an axe to grind, so I wonder if he feels slighted by the Mayor because the Mayor does not personally support the homosexual lifestyle? Is this why he is so anti Mayor? I read his article in The Star this week about this topic (driving); he managed to highlight the Mayors DUI in Florida in 1999. Yet when the Star reports on Jack Layton they never say how he was caught "red handed" in a massage parlor that was being raided by the Police and let go. If you have any dirt on the News Providers please send it to me !!! It will be News about the News.

@Joe Blow I agree with you Blow - the Star is very bias. (just as many other media outlets are in this city). No cut ups or sour comments today. Your lack of faith in modern news media is bang on.

It's fun to read these papers and commenting sections like it's fun to watch Jerry Springer, but at the end of it all - who do we trust for the real information? Are we looking to the Star, the Sun, the CBC, and Oakley for information or entertainment? Do we know the difference?

Does it really affect the price of rice with all these people commenting? (if 'Doug Ford' makes a comment does anyone really listen?)

Is there a medium out there that is untouched from the paystubs and bias of politics? I would hope that this great country still has a few bastions remaining.

I am warming up to the idea that fair media does not mean each side gets the same amount of time to speak (because each side is just as guilty for the same rhetoric). It is about allowing any side to speak but the news media must hold them accountable for their talking points using unbias fact.

Fortunately for Oakley (and 'Doug Ford') the John Oakley show IS NOT a news programme but a man-on-the-street style call in show with an accompanying op-ed micro-blog.

Joe - you are dancing on the borders of a much needed conversation about the importance we place on media in these high politicized forums. Your questions about Dale's bias are interesting but still present themselves with peppered rhetoric.

It's unfortunate that Oakley's intention here was to douse the media fire surrounding his other employer Mr. Ford. It is fortunate though people are starting to ask the important question of media bias.

Only if there was an intellegent and unbias moderator to keep the discussion going...
