Thaw Out The Tax Freeze
Posted 7/10/2012 9:34:00 AM

Mayor Ford is tabling another property tax freeze for 2014 and 2015.

A tax increase of 1.75 percent is on the books for 2013.

Given the financial sate of the city/province/country/planet, how can Mayor Ford be sure that Toronto won’t need the economic boost from property taxes those years?

Look west to Mississauga, where property taxes remained stable for close to a decade, they are now preparing to swallow a significant property tax hike.

Wouldn’t several small increases year over year make more sense than whomping people with a mammoth increase once every five or ten years?

If politicians used common sense, they may gain more sway.

Or could Mayor Ford be demonstrating some political savvy here, in a bid to kick off his reelection campaign?

Everything at City Hall is about self preservation. This counteracts the Stintz/Beermaker ONE CITY initiative. First they blocked his subways, now he has effectively blocked their subways by strangling their revenue source. ONE CITY is a reaction to Scarborough residents flooding Beermakers office with complaints about his killing the Subway for Scarborough under Ford. Now Beermaker can claim he is pro Subway. It's a game of one up man-ship. The socialist block the conservatives; they rejoice and slaps their own backs, then when the conservatives block the socialists they say it's only for political reasons. Problem is ....everyone are hypocrites - but more blame goes to the socialists IMHO.

@Joe Blow Just playing devil's advocate here ..... shouldn't there be some sort of test to determine if someone is inclined to be a socialist or conservative, you know chemically speaking? goof.

Ford's campaigning. Nothing savvy about it. For a 320 pound guy he's pretty transparent.
