Before You Leave For The Summer...
Posted 7/9/2012 9:14:00 AM

City Council has a full docket this week; their last before they reconvene on October 2nd.

On the agenda this week:

-         Changes to councillor expenses

-         Hiking street parking rates

-         Non-union staff pay increase

-         Doubling the parking ticket grace period

-         Ban on bullets

-         ‘OneCity’ Transit plan

The ‘OneCity’ transit plan and the non-union pay hike should take up the bulk of the time this week. The changes to councillor expenses would entail ending the ability to use their budgets to make charitable donations.

Six items, five days, forty-four squabbling children. Yup, a lot will get done for sure

You got that right John! Bunch of whiny, self important bags of hot air, most of which probably won't even show up. Too anxious to take off on their THREE MONTH SUMMER HOLIDAY! We really need to cut the size of council in half if there's any chance of getting down to business. Most of the same old do nothing councillors who've been blocking progress need to get out of the way and let the ones who really care about the city and its citizens do the job they were elected to do. What do you think the chances are we'll ever get THAT job done! Don't hold your breath folks!

@DMTE For once I agree with you (almost totally).

You ever watch the council sessions? They wonder around and complain about procedures and voting on 5 minute extensions, they all get 2 hour lunch breaks, and the speaker spends her day asking all the councillors to return to their seats. What type of regualr work place would allow this?

But seriously Dump-te - how we gonna fix it? Cut council in half? Seriously? With no due respect, that's not even your idea. It's obvious because you seem to think that we magically get to cut out the councillors that you disagree with.

Ford had a great idea about trimming the waste out of council and running a more efficient council. Sounded great, he had my vote.

2 years into his term do you see any changes.... nope. Kinda failed at running a less waste-ful council don't you think. Well now he's lost my vote.

Oh and did you see that one councillor that put a hold on six different votes just so he could vote against them, even though he was the only one voting against them and he KNEW he would lose - talk about wasting tax payers money.

If you're going to cut council I'd start with getting rid of that guy.

4 of the 6 items requires more taxes from people (except for bullets). If the bullets are used to kill criminals - well then they are saving me taxes in not having to jail them for years with free room, food, tv, clothing, legal fees.... etc..... all in all - HIGHER TAXES.
