A volunteer head coach in Newfoundland says he’s appealing his one-year suspension and $2,000 fine for his junior hockey team after allowing school to take precedence over the opening ceremonies of an end-of-season tournament. When his team didn’t show up for the ceremonies, Cranford said he heard nothing of the issue. His team even managed to play two games at the end of the week. They ranked last in the tournament. Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador said the suspension and fine resulted from the “neglect” of having not attended the events.
