10:00 Tax Away or Take Some Days?
The union representing Ontario's civil servants says its members want to help tackle the record deficit – as long as everyone in the province is asked to do the same. Premier Dalton McGuinty has suggested the government is looking at unpaid days off for public sector workers to help eliminate the $24.7 billion deficit. OPSEU spokesman Randy Robinson says no one in Ontario is to blame for the global recession that led to the deficit, so everyone should be asked to help get the province back in the black.

Recycling gobbles up time and energy. In effect, the city has outsourced garbage sorting to households, turning everyone, from banker to housewife, into domestic trash workers. Unlike me, most of them do it quite cheerfully, believing they are combatting a dire threat to the environment. In reality, recycling is a bust for the planet.

11:30 950th Time’s the Charm!
A South Korean woman is celebrating after passing the written exam for a driving license - on her 950th attempt. After four years of trying, 68-year-old Cha Sa-soon finally managed to secure the 60 out of 100 points needed to pass the test. The grandmother has spent more than 5m won ($4,200) on application fees for the test. Now Mrs Cha, who lives in Jeonju, 130 miles south of Seoul, must pass the practical test to get on the road. Do you remember failing a road test, and why?

1:00 Sweatpants on an Airplane
a Maryland man claims a United Airlines gate agent refused to let him take his seat in first class because his outfit, a Puma tracksuit, didn't meet the dress code. On October 26, Armando Alvarez, a vice president at Best Buy, was flying from Dulles International to Connecticut for business. A frequent flyer, Alvarez received a free upgrade to first class on the flight, but when the gate agent saw what he was wearing, he told him he "wasn't properly dressed" for first class and revoked the upgrade.

1:10 It’s Got Soul, But Let it Go!
A Volkswagen van stolen 35 years ago from Spokane has been found in a shipping container at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport. The Spokesman-Review newspaper reported that customs agents found the 1965 van on Oct. 19 when they opened a shipping container bound for The Netherlands. Running the vehicle identification number revealed it was still listed as stolen. The current owner is an insurance company, which presumably paid off the owner. The original owner has not been identified. A semi-related topic: Have you had a beater car you just didn’t want to get rid of, but should have.
