Mayor Hazel McCallion’s supporters turned out in droves, pleading, imploring, berating and even threatening Mississauga council. It didn’t work. Councillors voted 7-4 to push ahead with a $2.5 million judicial inquiry into the mayor’s presence in private meetings about her son’s downtown land deal and broadly related issues. Why do Mississaugans love their mayor so much?
11:00 A Wii-lee Good Sentence?
Readers are lambasting a Winnipeg youth court judge for being soft on a 12-year-old troublemaker. They're disgusted at the judge for wilting and granting the kid a break while releasing him on bail. The 12-year-old boy has been charged with crimes ranging from vandalism to assault to breaching court orders in the past nine months. at a hearing last week, Judge Marvin Garfinkle hit the boy where it hurts. He took away his most important possession; his Nintendo Wii. "He is pledging as a security, akin to a cash deposit, his Nintendo Wii. And if he doesn't comply, he loses it," Garfinkle told court. Is this an appropriate punishment?

1:00 Halloween Hijack
Have you ever seen a sexy ladybug? Unless you're a particularly kinky entomologist, probably not. Ladybugs are cute enough, but they don't have a whole lot of sex appeal. Or, at least they didn't. This weekend, it seems the whole city could well be crawling with the coquettish critters. That's because "sexy ladybug" is just one of the many sexy Halloween costumes available for sale this season, fighting for space on Halloween costume racks with a variety of other sexy ensembles including sexy bumblebee, sexy lion, sexy teddy bear and sexy bat. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but somewhere along the way Halloween shifted from a children's candy grab into a season of sexed-up adult entertainment. At some point, all Hallows Eve took on a decidedly unseemly tone.
