Do Not Attempt Yourself... First Line of Defence... Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

10/28/2009

10:00 First Line of Defence
What’s your first line of defence when it comes to dealing with the flu? Your family doctor (if you have one)? The local walk-in clinic? TeleHealth? A House-call service? A Toronto parent group is pressing Toronto's public and Catholic education boards to close schools if there's a pattern of kids getting sick from the H1N1 virus. The Greater Toronto Catholic Parent Network said parents are anxious in the wake of the death of 13-year-old Evan Frustaglio, who died of the virus Monday.

11:00 Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!
In a scene more likely to play out at a demolition derby than at the parking lot of a Thornhill fitness centre, a Toronto area information technology worker watched in horror as a BMW SUV drove onto his Hyundai Elantra last week. Todd Jamison, a staffer at an Extreme Fitness gym located near Yonge Street and Highway 407, came off shift last Thursday evening to find the hood and windshield of his 2004 Elantra bashed in. Has your vehicle been hit by someone who fled the scene and failed to fess up? Were you the one who ran with your tail between your legs?

1:00 Do Not Attempt Yourself
Domestic car manufacturers and importers are operating under a tighter leash after Advertising Standards Canada (ASC) handed down new guidelines banning depictions of unsafe driving last month. Ads may not suggest that exceeding the speed limit, car chases in a residential setting, or other unsafe driving practices are acceptable. Do advertisements need to baby us? Do we need disclaimers for car, beverage or cat food ads?
