LOU SCHIZAS

Prior to joining BNN (Business News Network), Schizas, a life long investor and entrepreneur, was a Calgary-based financial advisor. Lou is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and undertook graduate studies in Economics at the State University of New York. He holds the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. Lou is also a Professor of Finance at Sheridan College Institute of Technology.

Her recent book With or Without God: Why the Way We Live is More Important than What We Believe became a national bestseller within a week of publication and has stirred debate across the church. Controversial Bishop John Shelby Spong, who wrote the forward for her book, introduced Gretta to his readership as a guest columnist, calling her “one of the most exciting voices in 21st century Christianity.” She ministers with the congregation of West Hill United Church in east Toronto. JOHN BOLTON

John Robert Bolton is an American public servant who has served in several Republican presidential administrations. He served as the interim Permanent US Representative to the UN from August 2005 until December 2006 on a recess appointment, and resigned in December 2006 when his recess appointment would have ended. Bolton is currently of counsel to the law firm Kirkland & Ellis, in their Washington D.C. office. He is also involved with a broad assortment of conservative think tanks and policy institutes, including the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), Project for the New American Century (PNAC), Institute of East-West Dynamics, National Rifle Association, US Commission on International Religious Freedom, and the Council for National Policy (CNP). Bolton was formerly involved with Committee for Peace and Security in the Gulf (CPSG), Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Federalist Society, National Policy Forum, National Advisory Board, Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, New Atlantic Initiative, Project on Transitional Democracies, and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

JOHN TURLEY-EWART

John Turley-Ewart is the National Post's deputy comment Editor. In addition to writing editorials and op eds for the National Post and Financial Post, Turley-Ewart is a member of the National Post's editorial board, the editorial cartoon editor and appears regularly on television and radio as a political commentator. He was a banker for nearly 10 years before completing an MA in British history and turning to federal politics where he worked on a wide range of public policy issues, including homelessness and federal bank policy. In 2000, Turley-Ewart completed a PhD in Canadian business and political history under the supervision of Prof. Michael Bliss at the University of Toronto. He joined the Post in early 2001.

  ERNIE EVES

Ernie Eves has had a long and distinguished career in both public service and private business. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Mr. Eves attended the University of Toronto and is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School. Ernie Eves graduated in 1970, was called to the Bar in 1972 and became a Queen’s Counsel in 1983. Ernie was a Member of Provincial Parliament for nearly 24 years and served as Ontario’s 23rd Premier from April 15, 2002 until October 23, 2003. Ernie was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1981 and was subsequently re-elected seven times. Ernie has served in numerous legislative capacities including; Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education & Minister of Colleges & Universities, Provincial Secretary for Resource Development, Minister of Skills Development, Opposition Whip, Opposition House Leader, Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance, Government House Leader and Leader of the Official Opposition. An active member of his community, Ernie founded the Big Brothers Association of Parry Sound, is a former President of the Kinsmen Club of Parry Sound and is a recipient of the Kinsmen Club of Canada’s Outstanding President’s Award. Ernie is a Founder and Chairman of the Justin Eves Foundation. Established in his son’s memory, the Foundation is a charitable non-profit organization granting scholarships and bursaries to learning-disabled and disadvantaged young people to assist them as they achieve their post-secondary education. Mr. Eves is currently Executive Chairman of Jacob Securities Inc.

BUZZ HARGROVE

Basil (Buzz) Hargrove served as National President of the Canadian Auto Workers union from his election in 1992 until his retirement in September 2008. Born and raised in New Brunswick, Hargrove’s roots in the labour movement began on the auto assembly line in Windsor, Ontario. He held several leadership positions and eventually joined the UAW staff in Toronto in 1975 and helped form the CAW in 1985. Along with his efforts as National President, he served as vice-president of the Canadian Labour Congress’ executive committee. In November 1998, Hargrove released an autobiography entitled Labour of Love: The Fight to Create a More Humane Canada. Hargrove has received a number of honorary doctorates from Canadian universities and was named a Fellow of Centennial College in June of 2005. Nationally recognized for his contributions to society, Buzz was named an officer of the Order of Canada in 2008. Since retirement, Buzz has focused his energy on many different projects including interim Ombudsman to the National Hockey League Players Association and is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ryerson University in the Ted Rogers School of Business. Hargrove lives with his wife Denise Small in Mississauga, Ontario.

LEO VICTOR PANITCH

Leo Victor Panitch (BA Manitoba; MA & PhD London School of Economics, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada) is the Senior Canada Research Chair in Comparative Political Economy and Distinguished Research Professor of Political Science at York University. For 25 years he has also been the co-editor of the internationally renowned annual volume, The Socialist Register. His most recent books are In and out of Crisis and American Empire and the Political Economy of Global Finance and Renewing Socialism: Transforming Democracy, Strategy and Imagination. His earlier books include Global Capitalism and American Empire; From Consent to Coercion: The Assault on Trade Union Freedoms; The End of Parliamentary Socialism; Working Class Politics in Crisis; and Social Democracy and Industrial Militancy. Professor Panitch was for many years a regular on CBC television's Face Off and CBC Radio's Commentary, and Foreign Policy magazine featured his essay on 'Thoroughly Modern Marx' on its front cover in April/May 2009.

SUSAN G. COLE

Susan was born in Toronto and has her bachelor's degree from Harvard. As an activist, she's been active in the gay community for over 25 years, and was a member of the first lesbian political organization in Toronto. As a playwright she founded, composed and played piano in Toronto's first all-women's band Mama Quilla II. Susan is the Senior Entertainment Editor for NOW Magazine.

Lorrie Goldstein
 
Lorrie Goldstein is a columnist with the Toronto Sun and the paper's Senier Associate Editor. His columns appear on Thursdays and Sundays and mainly focus on examples of politicians doing stupid things - which means his source material is almost endless. Born and raised in Toronto, he's also a passionate defender of the city from the forces of political correctness, whom, he says, are always on the lookout for new ways to take the fun out of our lives.
