John Oakley came into a cold winter world kicking and screaming. A tumultuous entrance that, in hindsight, could've been confused for show-prep. (FYI: he's a Pisces). Over the years and many miles, he's done stints in auto assembly, haberdashery, as a comedy club maven, paperboy, and lemonade stand operator -- and yes, in that particular order. But ultimately all avenues led to life behind a microphone.
Forsaking the 500 percent mark-up on a glass of freshie, he heeded the siren call to make the world safe for broadcasting. Almost immediately landing the prestigious post as morning man at a major market talk-radio station was his dream. Two decades later John Oakley did come to realise that dream, but not before staring down the twin demons of disappointment and dismissal at radio stations in Orillia, Toronto and Montreal. Oh yeah, and the broadcasting equivalents of Incubus and Secubus: lousy pay and dubious bosses. But he's not bitter, and besides, that's mostly behind him now.
Today he is widely considered to be one of this country's pre-eminent talk-radio hosts. That's pretty much all you need to know.
