Tim Powers – Canadian Political Commentator & Senior V.P., Summa Communications.

The Harper government has survived yet another confidence vote, in the face of a dire warning from Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff that the Tories could "change Canada beyond recognition."

The House of Commons voted 144-117 on Thursday against a Liberal motion to bring down the minority Conservatives.

The Liberals and Bloc Quebecois supported the motion while the Tories opposed it and the NDP abstained.

The NDP has served notice that it will prop up the government at least until legislation worth $1 billion in enhanced benefits for the unemployed is passed.

Giorgio Mammoliti – Toronto City Councillor [Ward 7 – York West] & Mayoral Hopeful.
Just two days after David Miller announced that this term will be his last as mayor of Toronto, York West Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti revived a five-year-old promise to become Toronto's first Italian-Canadian mayor and let it be known he's exploring a run. On Monday, he laid out what he called a "no-nonsense" campaign.

"In my case it would be a no-nonsense kind of approach to the election," said Mammoliti, who called himself a candidate from the right. "It means being tough on crime more than we have been, coming up with an enforcement strategy on dealing with gang members that are still plaguing pockets of our communities; it means reevaluating and prioritizing the way we spend money at city hall and working into a larger scheme an objective that would bring back service to the suburbs that we've lost in amalgamation."

Marcia Clark – Former L.A. District Attorney, Author: Without A Doubt & Daily Beast Contributor.
Roman Polanski’s Lost Alibi & The Lost Transcripts.

A retired L.A. prosecutor—the man at the center of the Polanski judicial misconduct allegations—tells Marcia Clark that he lied to documentarians, undercutting the director’s defense. Among the developments Clark finds:

• Polanski’s grounds for dismissal center around the former prosecutor inappropriately advising the judge about how to send Polanski back to prison. But the former prosecutor, David Wells, now tells Clark that “I lied” in the movie about advising the judge, and that “it never happened,” which could undermine the director’s case for dismissal.

• Wells’ excuse for lying in the movie? “The director of the documentary told me it would never air in the States. I thought it made a better story if I said I’d told the judge what to do.”

• Wells confirms to Clark that he did supply the judge pictures of Polanski reveling at Oktoberfest, and says that it’s these photos that prompted the judge in 1977 to reconsider the plea bargain.

• Law-enforcement sources confirm that the strident actions of Polanski’s own lawyers—prompted by Wells’ now-recanted statements in the movie—led to his arrest this weekend.

John LeBoutillier – Former US Congressman & Noted Conservative.
Joining the Nuclear Club – Full Blog in Folder

Iran has been accelerating their secret program to build operational nuclear weapons for one reason—and one reason alone: once a country has nukes, no one messes with that country ever again!

No one pre-emptively attacks and invades you—as the USA did to Iraq in 2003.

Iran saw what the Bush-led invasion did to their next-door-neighbor, Iraq—the dreaded term for dictators—regime change—and they wanted no part of the same possibility aimed their way. Thus they immediately went pedal-to-the-metal—in secret, or so they thought—to build nuclear weapons.

Christopher Heard – Resident Pop Culture Guru & All Around Nice Guy.

The David Letterman Affair…

The talk show host's revelation that he had relationships with female employees sparks impassioned discussion about hypocrisy and sex in the workplace.

David Letterman has milked plenty of sex scandals for laughs. But it remains to be seen whether the CBS comic's admission Thursday that he had sexual liaisons with female employees while he was involved with his now-wife, the mother of his 5-year-old son, will fade away with a few late-night punch lines.

Although Letterman focused on his role as the victim of a would-be extortionist who demanded $2 million to keep the details of his affairs secret, the episode sparked impassioned discussion Friday about sex in the workplace and hypocrisy.

After years of mocking other public figures for their sexual indiscretions, Letterman, 62, is facing scrutiny for behavior that is verboten in many workplaces. Conservative critics, in particular, expressed disgust with the comedian, whose frequent potshots at former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin -- including a crude joke he made in June about her daughter -- have infuriated many on the right.

Laurent Leduc – Professor Emeritus of Ethics, U of T & Glen Echo Park Resident & Spokesperson.

Over 100 nudists at Glen Echo Park are set to fight for their rights under the Residential Tenancies Act in a series of Landlord and Tenant Board hearings in Toronto originally scheduled for October some of which have now been moved forward to September 28th, due to impending sale of the Park on October 1, 2009.

Members of the community located about 50 km north of Toronto were caught off guard when they received a vaguely worded letter in late August from the current owners, Edward and Mary Todorowsky, saying their beloved Park was closing its doors October

Members are scrambling to learn what their rights are and what options are available to them, given the sudden muteness of the owners and the numerous written assurances given in recent years that the Park would only be sold to individuals with the clear intent to continue the naturist community.

There are about 90 land lease homes at the Park. While the residents own their homes, they lease the land on which these homes are situated, on a yearly basis. Some residents have been part of the community for over 50 years: some started their residency as children in the arms of their parents.

Sam Leach – The Beatles First Manager & Promoter.

Nobody is screaming or crying or fainting anymore, but that doesn’t mean Beatlemania is a thing of the past. Some 45 years after the mop tops induced hysteria at Suffolk Downs, the Beatles remain the biggest band in the world.

On Sept. 9, the Beatles catalog was released in stereo and mono box sets that sold out at stores coast to coast. Due to incredible demand, most backorders won’t be filled until October. Also available as single albums, the remastered albums dominate the Amazon sales chart: Fourteen Beatles titles are in Amazon’s top 100 (Michael Jackson holds an additional 14 spots in the Top 100).

Billboard’s latest catalog chart appears today and the Beatles are predicted to win nine of the lead slots on the chart, with Michael Jackson’s “Number Ones” rounding out the Top 10.
