UPDATE: Service Resumed Along Yonge-University-Spadina Line
    Toronto/AM640

    11/18/2009

After a 6 hour delay, subway service is back up and running between Eglinton and Bloor.

Thousands of commuters were stranded after a third party road crew punctured a hole into a portion of the tunnel just south of St. Clair Avenue around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

TTC's Spokesman, Brad Ross tells AM640 News, "They discovered they had punctured a hole through to the subway, they immediately stopped work and notified us. We halted all subway service, assessed the situation with our engineers and have now secured that slab of concrete temporarily to allow us to run the subway safely"

Ross says any further repairs will be done after subway hours.
Up to 70 shuttle buses were put into service at the peak of the closure and police closed down Yonge Street from Church to Charles to allow passage of the buses.

A woman in her 70's was reportedly hit by a car during the chaos.  She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
