The provincial government introduced legislation Monday afternoon to merge Ontario's 8% sales tax with the 5% G-S-T, starting next summer. Premier Dalton McGuinty says there will also be a series of cuts to income and corporate taxes and up to $1,000 in rebates for families to help offset the impact of the harmonized sales tax in the first year. New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath told the legislature the Liberal government is kicking people when they're down by creating a single, 13 per cent sales tax and called the H-S-T a “job-killing” tax. Provincial Conservative leader Tim Hudak told the Oakley show the H-S-T is nothing more than a cash grab. He went on to add that the claim it would actually create jobs by lowering business taxes is totally misleading.
