Members of the United Auto Workers have overwhelmingly ratified a settlement deal with Chrysler.
The UAW says 82 per cent of production workers and 80 per cent of skilled-trades workers voted for the agreement in balloting that took place at UAW Chrysler locations throughout the U.S. Ninety per cent of office and clerical workers and 94 per cent of UAW-represented engineering workers voted in favour.
The agreement will take effect May 4 and auto company Fiat will sign the partnership agreement with Chrysler by Thursday. That's the last piece of Chrysler's plan to meet the U.S. government's Thursday restructuring deadline.
Members of the Canadian Auto Workers union ratified a similar settlement with Chrysler Canada over the weekend.
