Golden Horseshoe awarded 2015 Pan Am Games
The Golden Horseshoe will host the 2015 Pan Am Games after beating out two rival South American cities. The decision came down today in Guadalajara, Mexico, where a team including Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Toronto Mayor David Miller made their last pitch to host the games. Organizers have said a win would bring new jobs, facilities and a little civic pride to Ontario's capital. Prime Minister Stephen Harper declined an invitation to travel to Mexico for the decision, but Federal Minister of State for Sport Gary Lunn is one of the delegates. The Toronto 2015 bid committee won on the first ballot, beating out bids from Lima, Peru, and Bogota, Colombia.   Toronto won with 33 votes, with Lima receiving 11 and Bogota 7. The decision means Hamilton will get a new stadium for the Pan Am Games' track and field events, which will also become the home of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Hamilton will get a new stadium to host track and field. A new aquatic centre at McMaster University is also in the cards, while volleyball would be played at Copps Coliseum.

Mayor Insists The Benefits Will Be Widespread
The 2015 Pan Am Games will result in a massive renewal of Hamilton's sports infrastructure. Mayor Eisenberger expects a total investment of about 230 million dollars, of which the city will pay about one-third of the total cost. The biggest investment will involve the construction of a new football stadium near the west harbour.  It will host track and field during the games in 2015 and become the new home of the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Plans also call for a velodrome to be built in conjunction with the stadium, a new aquatic centre at McMaster University and upgrades to Copps Coliseum which will host volleyball. The Mayor describes it as "spectacular", saying it will be a "revitalization opportunity" for the City of Hamilton ranging from waterfront redevelopment to the potential of rapid transit. He adds that "today we celebrate" and "tomorrow we go to next steps" including land acquisition and neighbourhood issues tied to the new stadium.

    Ticats clinch playoff berth
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are going to the playoffs for the first time in five years.   The 8-and-9 Cats clinched at least third place in the East Division after Edmonton throttled B-C 45-13 on Friday night in Vancouver.   The win gives the 9-and-9 Eskimos third place in the West Division while pushing the 8-and-10 Lions to the brink of elimination.   The only way the Leo’s can make the playoffs now is as a cross over team.   That can only happen if the Ticats beat the 7-and-10 Blue Bombers on Sunday in Winnipeg.   CHML’s coverage of the game begins with the pre-game show at noon.   Kick off on Y108 and AM900 CHML is at 1pm.   A Hamilton win in the ‘Peg would set up a Ticats vs. Lions East semifinal at Ivor Wynne next Sunday, marking the first time the Cats would host a playoff game since 2001.   It would also mark the return of quarterback Casey Printers to Hamilton.   Although the former Ticats pivot injured his thumb in B-C’s lopsided loss to the Eskimos.   Buck Pierce re-injured his shoulder, forcing third stringer Zac Champion into the game.
