The 2015 Pan Am Games will result in a massive renewal of Hamilton's sports infrastructure.
Mayor Eisenberger expects a total investment of about 230 million dollars, of which the city will pay about one-third of the total cost.
The biggest investment will involve the construction of a new football stadium near the west harbour. It will host track and field during the games in 2015 and become the new home of the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
Plans also call for a velodrome to be built in conjunction with the stadium, a new aquatic centre at McMaster University and upgrades to Copps Coliseum which will host volleyball.
The Mayor describes it as "spectacular", saying it will be a "revitalization opportunity" for the City of Hamilton ranging from waterfront redevelopment to the potential of rapid transit.
He adds that "today we celebrate" and "tomorrow we go to next steps" including land acquisition and neighbourhood issues tied to the new stadium.
