The Golden Horseshoe will host the 2015 Pan Am Games after beating out two rival South American cities.
The decision came down today in Guadalajara, Mexico, where a team including Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Toronto Mayor David Miller made their last pitch to host the games.
Organizers have said a win would bring new jobs, facilities and a little civic pride to Ontario's capital.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper declined an invitation to travel to Mexico for the decision, but Federal Minister of State for Sport Gary Lunn is one of the delegates.
The Toronto 2015 bid committee won on the first ballot, beating out bids from Lima, Peru, and Bogota, Colombia.
Toronto won with 33 votes, with Lima receiving 11 and Bogota 7.
The decision means Hamilton will get a new stadium for the Pan Am Games' track and field events, which will also become the home of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Hamilton will get a new stadium to host track and field. A new aquatic centre at McMaster University is also in the cards, while volleyball would be played at Copps Coliseum.
