Leafs Need Carcillo!!
Posted 7/4/2008 12:00:00 AM

I’ve been banging this drum for a little while now, but I wanted to get it down lest someone has the gall to claim under-the-radarism.

The Toronto Maple Leafs NEED Daniel Carcillo. Not a Daniel Carcillo type of player but the man himself.
For those who don’t know, Carcillo is the little-ish beast who scored 13 goals in under 60 games for Phoenix while leading the league in penalty minutes at 324 thanks to a willingness to drop the gloves against any and all. Over 80 games, that’d amount to around 17 goals and 400 minutes.

Now, I recognize that if a guy can score like that, it doesn’t make much sense to have him anchored in the bin but with the Leafs assembling a young, speedy and skill-based lineup featuring the likes of Tlusty, Kulemin and Grabovski, someone’s gonna have to stand up for them.

Finger Food for Thought
Posted 7/2/2008 12:00:00 AM

Though I realize it’s impossible to quantify, I can promise you his quality of play won’t match that 700 per cent climb. Now, you can argue he was underpaid for his only full season of service ...

No Complaints About the Draft
Posted 6/23/2008 12:00:00 AM

I’m a little lost this morning. I have nothing to be angry about.
The Leafs made the right moves all weekend long. There were no head-scratching reaches in Ottawa.

They moved up to get the thumper they desperately need on the blue line, grabbing Luke Schenn fifth overall. It cost them a second and a third but when the GM explains he’ll take quality over quantity any day, it’s hard to argue with his decision. In Schenn, the Leafs have grabbed the best of the shut down defencemen in the draft. It’s the pick we at the weekend show have been calling on them to make since April.

Good on y’all at the draft table.

Second pick of Jimmy Hayes is tough to scoff at too, especially when the price was Hal Gill. This is the pick the Leafs acquired in the deadline day trade with Pittsburgh. No ...
