Another Super Bowl Beauty

I used to LOVE how people who don't give the NFL its proper due used to point out how lopsided the Super Bowl was.  It didn't make the league during the season or the playoffs any less entertaining, but it DID become real tough to defend the Super Bowl and it's dramatic value.

From the strike-shortened 1982 season which saw the Washington Redskins dump the Miami Dolphins 27-17, there were five straight blowout games.  Games that were over before they started setting up the stage for Up With People, before the organizers got logical and dreamt big about "halftime shows".

We then had a classic between the 49ers and the Bengals. Montana's drive.  The touchdown to John Taylor. The legendary story of him supposedly saying in the huddle..."Hey, isn't that John Candy in the stands?"...and then calmly leading the 49ers' offence 92 yards for the game-winning touchdown. The Lights Are Still Out In Georgia

I don't want to hack on Don Waddell.  Really, I don't. But in the NHL, there's no GM who's accomplished so very little, with such an opportunity with high picks and good young players, and for a while, the ability to spend money and not be a "budget" team for much of their existence.

But following the trade of the best player the franchise has ever had, and the most prolific NHL goalscorer since the 04/05 lockout, this insanity of the Atlanta Thrashers ownership continuing to employ him HAS to end.

Kovalchuk went to the New Jersey Devils, where he may become, officially, after his first shift against the Maple Leafs in Newark tomorrow night, the most exciting forward ever to wear a Devils jersey. I don't think that's a stretch - and I was a huge Randy McKay fan.  Ahem.

It has brought loads of derision towards Waddell ...

Destiny Doesn't Get Us Traded To The Leafs....WE DO!

What a Sunday. Give Brian Burke credit for his timing. Never mind the fact that my 4-year old boy's birthday party was interrupted several times, when the decibel level was peaking over decisions between chicken strips and chicken nuggets.

Burke makes two major trades on the Sunday in between the NFL's Conference Championship games and the Super Bowl. He trumps the Pro Bowl...let alone the Raptors' fifth straight victory. I am getting a slow case of Raptors fever....winning one playoff round in fourteen seasons combined with at least a 50 percent chance the team's superstar is bolting at the end of the season, makes a GTA resident approach with caution. But at least, I'm now approaching.

So yes....what did the Leafs do today? Better or worse for this year? Better or worse long-term? Who got the best player?

Well, first of all, let's stop the insanity that the Flames got ...
