Insanity or Reality?

July 1st has come and gone....and is anyone really really (need more "reallys"?) surprised by what transpired?  Teams always overspend on July 1st -- and when they're forced to deal with a growing cap, you are looking out for #1 and there's no set responsibility for Detroit and Pittsburgh to be concerned that Phoenix and the Islanders can't spend with them.

Some quick thoughts on some signings...and no, this isn't "winners and losers" because it's way too early to judge that, in addition to the fact that I never was one, and I don't think there's many left who begrudge athletes making big dollars.  Nothing makes me angrier than people who suggest that firemen and teachers SHOULD make more than NHLers or other pro athletes.

Really?  You're kidding.  So they're more meaningful occupations?  Shocking.  Never would have occured to me.  A lot of things aren't in balance with ...

Wow...has it been that long since I blogged?

23 days?  Really?  I can assure you it's crept up on me, this fact and all.  I won't blame the kiddies though they have kept me and Miss Rachel busy.

Anyway - this is a wistful Euro for me.  I was in Europe for the last THREE.  In 1996, myself and a journalism school classmate went to England, the summer England was hosting it.  The summer "football ...
