There were scenes of jubilation at BMO field on Wednesday night, as Toronto FC made history in becoming the first Canadian team to advance to the MLS Cup final.
The home side beat the Montreal Impact 5-2 after extra time in the second leg of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference Final, for an aggregate win of 7-5.
Montreal came into the game with a 3-2 lead following game one in Montreal and Toronto had it all to do when the visitors were first to score.
However after an epic battle on the pitch, TFC were up 3-2 after 90 minutes, the teams tied 5-5 on aggregate, forcing the game into extra time.
Chants of ”this is our house” were heard from the TFC faithful in the rain-drenched BMO field as substitutes Benoit Cheyrou and Tosaint Ricketts scored two minutes apart in extra time to seal the deal.
Toronto will now play host the Seattle Sounders in the MLS Cup final on Dec. 10 at BMO field.
