Plans are in the works for provincial hydro consumers to have flexible billing options.
The Ontario government says future billing options could allow customers to choose plans that better suit their needs.
Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault would also like to change the way electricity is bought so that doesn’t focus on wind, solar or any specific technology.
The change would focus more on the energy outcome, rather than how it was produced.
Thibeault also questions the time-of-use pricing for electricity, where peak daylight hours are charged at higher rates.
The practice has been widely criticized for unfairly charging those who are home during the day.
Premier Kathleen Wynne previously admitted the Ontario government had made a mistake by not recognizing the impact of energy policies on electricity bills.
She’s promised a relief for consumers in the future, although it’s not yet known what that would be.
