Toronto police thought it would be a simple traffic stop after receiving reports of a vehicle driving erratically near the area of Hwy 400 and King Road.
They soon discovered the driver of the vehicle was an 11-year-old boy.
The vehicle was pulled by police at King Road just before midnight Saturday.
The officer drove up beside the vehicle, noticed what seemed to be a child in the driver’s seat and activated his lights.
According to OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt, at that point, the vehicle took off, accelerating to well over the double the speed limit.
Several officers were then called in and were able to box the car into the shoulder safely.
The young boy told police that he was playing the popular video game Grand Theft Auto and “wanted to see what it was like to drive a car”.
Schmidt says the boy was safely returned to his parents.
