Expect things to get heated on Monday, when TTC board members meet to discuss the 2017 TTC and Wheel-Trans operating budget and the 2017-2026 capital budget.
A group of transit riders are also expected to attend. About one hundred of them will attend the meeting to speak out against fare hikes and service cuts.
Just last week, a 10¢ increase was proposed, which would take the current fare to $3, but the $3.25 cash fare would not be included.
The group says they are also concerned about reductions to peak and off-peak service, and the end of the 10-minutes or better service on certain bus routes.
Transit riders want to voice their strong opposition to the fare hikes and service cuts in the 2017 TTC Operating Budget. The proposed budget will drive down ridership, worsen congestion, and increase poverty. Transit riders are calling for more service, affordable fares, and proper funding of the TTC’s operations.
