A 12-year-old girl, arrested in connection with a gun bust inside her family home in Toronto, has been released from custody, after what her family is calling “two traumatizing nights”.
She was arrested Tuesday night along with her mother, brothers and other youths, after police uncovered two machine pistols and an overcapacity drum magazine inside a home in northeast Toronto.
Det. Sgt. Gerald Heaney said the 12-year-old girl was charged along with everyone else living in the home because the firearm was accessible to everyone in the residence.
She was released to her grandmother on Thursday, where she will remain in her custody.
As part of her bail conditions, the girl is not allowed to contact her mother or some of her brothers, and she must live with her grandmother.
She is scheduled to appear in court again on Jan. 5.
12-years-old, is that too young to spend two nights in jail? What should the police have done, rather than arresting her? Or, do you think the police were right to arrest her?
