A Government of Canada building in Scarborough was evacuated, Friday morning, after reports of a suspicious package.
A CBRN (Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) call came into Toronto Fire around 9:51 A.M. which expedited a dispatch to 200 Town Centre Court.
“Persons within that unit described what was a black or brown liquid coming from an envelope with a strong odor,” said Toronto Fire Captain David Eckerman.
The letter was postmarked from Thailand.
As a precaution, emergency personnel evacuated the building.
About 40 people from the sixth floor who were in close proximity to the package, were isolated on the first floor while paramedics checked them out.
Fire crews later confirmed the substance was deemed not to be a toxic or biological hazard, and building management were given the all clear to resume normal operations.
