It appears some Canadians are having to reach out for help to put food on the table.
A report by Food Banks Canada finds in March of this year, 863,492 people went to a food bank. That’s an increase of 1.3% from March of last year, and a 28% jump from 2008.
The organization says the higher number can be attributed, in part, to the failure of the government to support people who find themselves in a tough situation.
It will release the full report Tuesday morning, and present policy recommendations to all levels of governments in efforts to reduce the need for food banks.
