A large group of juveniles in downtown Philadelphia assaulted a group of four people including an off-duty police detective and his wife.
The unprovoked “flash mob” attack occurred at a popular dining and shopping spot at 16th and Walnut streets at around 6 p.m Saturday night.
The off-duty officer, a 55- year-old man, saw a man and women being assaulted and attempted to arrest one of the attackers.
At that point, several others surrounded the officer and repeatedly punched him.
The detective’s 53-year-old wife tried to stop the attack on her husband by throwing water in one of the juvenile’s face.
They then attacked her and fled the scene.
Victim’s were transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for treatment.
The detective involved in the attack received multiple injuries including an orbital fracture to his right eye.
Two 16-year-old’s were also arrested after a separate attack nearby.
That victim received minor injuries.
