Free agent Kendrys Morales and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a three-year-deal worth $33 million.
Toronto signed the slugger in hopes of having him supply power in case the team loses Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion to free agency this off-season.
Morales is a slugger who hit 30 homeruns with 93 runs batted in with the Kansas City Royals over the 2016 major league season. He also managed to reach the 30 homerun mark for the first time since 2009.
Morales is a switch-hitter and will help in the middle of a batting order that is primarily right-handed.
Toronto will open the MLB season on April 3rd, 2017 when they visit the Orioles in Baltimore.
Meantime, the Jays have agreed to a deal with infield/outfield Cuban prospect Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
