An Ontario grandmother has been accused of illegally downloading a video game – and could have to pay up to $5,000.
86-year-old Christine McMillan said she’d never heard of the game in question, and is likely one of the tens of thousands of Canadians who received the same notice.
Canadian Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement(CANIPRE) accused McMillan illegally downloaded Metro 2033, a first-person shooter game.
Network security anaylust and technology expert Will Knoll says someone could have used her unsecured wifi network and downloaded the game using her IP address.
