Pedestrian advocates of Toronto are planning to protest Sunnybrook’s new road safety campaign. The campaign encourages pedestrians to wear more visible clothing as we head into the dark winter months.
Walk Toronto founder Dylan Reid has stated “We know that two thirds of pedestrians have the right of way when they’re hit by drivers,” (citing a 2015 report by Toronto Public Health).
“So, if you want to reduce fatalities and serious injuries, you’re going to make a much bigger difference by focusing on driver behaviour, because in the majority of cases, driver behaviour is what’s responsible.”
Do you think this is victim blaming? Should drivers share the blame?
