Peel Regional Police have charged a man after he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle at officers Friday evening and led six cruisers on a brief high-speed chase along Hwy. 407.
Investigators spotted a parked vehicle at 22 Division in Brampton before 9:30pm and noticed it was stolen.
When approached, the vehicle drove directly at police, where an officer then fired a single round at the driver.
The vehicle fled the parking lot where police followed the vehicle on a brief high-speed chase along Hwy. 407. Police ended the pursuit in Halton Region due to public safety concerns.
Around 7am Saturday morning, a burnt 2016 white Dodge Durango was located on a pedestrian walkway in the area of Glen Erin Dr. and Meadowvale Town Centre Circle in Mississauga.
Although it had been set on fire, officers were able to confirm it was the stolen vehicle involved in the vehicle pursuit.
On Sunday, Peel police arrested 28-year old Umair Butt of Mississauga in connection to the incident. It was confirmed then that he had not been struck by the fired bullet.
Butt has been charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a vehicle, arson and flight from police.
He appeared at a bail hearing Monday in Brampton.
