Toronto Firefighters do not believe anyone was in a residence that caught fire on Tuesday in Scarborough.
Initial 911 callers believed someone to be inside the structure as fire units responded around 1:30 P.M., however Toronto Fire Captain David Eckerman said searches did not turn up anything.
“There were reports that a woman could be trapped up on the second floor.” said Eckerman “We performed an initial primary search, and that has determined the home to be clear.”
The blaze was a one alarm fire which started on the back porch a home near Midland and Sheppard avenue, next to a church.
Crews had to enter from the front as the rear of the building was compromised, and ladders were needed to get crews into the building to initiate a search for occupants.
Eckerman says the home suffered just smoke and water damage, and that it’s not a complete loss.
The cause has not been determined.
