Not everyone is getting the message about distracted driving.
A new Ipsos survey done for the CAA finds 32% of Ontarians admit to driving distracted, and the number one reason is because someone has called.
Some other reasons cited for drivers taking their eyes off the road and reaching for their phone:
-have to get in touch with someone I’m meeting
-someone has texted
-have to talk to spouse
-have to talk to parents
-able to multi-task
-use for work
-bored at red light
-have to talk to children
As of September 1, 2015, drivers who are caught breaking the law face a minimum fine of $490, plus three demerit points upon conviction.
“There is no excuse for driving distracted. Making a phone call or sending a text message isn’t worth putting your life or someone else’s at risk.” – Teresa Di Felice, Director Government and Community Relations, CAA SCO.
